First Round of Pilot Operations Completed

As the project progresses into its second half, PRESERVE has launched its first round of pilot operations, marking a key milestone in the development of its privacy-preserving decision-support toolbox.

European law enforcement authorities face the dual challenge of leveraging technological advancements to combat crime while safeguarding fundamental rights such as privacy and equality before the law.

Addressing this challenge requires solutions that are both effective and trustworthy. PRESERVE is designing, implementing, and validating a privacy-preserving law enforcement decision-support tool that complies with the EU’s ethical standards for AI.

The project leverages AI-based models to analyse large volumes of data from diverse sources and identify patterns linked to cybercrime and terrorism. This enables proactive threat detection and prevention while protecting individual privacy, promoting unbiased policing, and ensuring adherence to European ethical and legal standards.

PRESERVE follows a structured two-round piloting approach to ensure continuous improvement of the system. In Project Month 22, dedicated pilot sessions have been conducted with the three participating law enforcement authorities: the Ertzaintza (Department of Security of the Basque Government), the Police of the Czech Republic, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania. During these sessions, an initial set of features is being evaluated by end users, providing valuable insights into the system’s performance and usability. These activities represent an important step in the validation process and generate critical feedback to support further refinement of the solution.
