One year after its launch, the PRESERVE Project consortium convened on 8-9 October at the Pullman Bucharest World Trade Center for its third face-to-face meeting.

Hosted by Romania’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, the two-day event brought together representatives from all 13 project partners to review progress and plan next steps in developing an ethical, privacy-preserving AI platform to support criminal investigations.

Since its kick-off in September 2024, PRESERVE has been steadily advancing toward its goal: developing, implementing, and validating an AI-powered decision-support toolbox. This toolbox is designed to enhance Europe’s cybercrime prevention and detection capabilities while fully complying with EU ethical and legal standards for AI.

The PRESERVE toolbox will combine Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, and User and Entity Behaviour Analytics to analyse diverse data sources. Federated Learning allows AI model training across decentralized systems without sharing sensitive data, while Privacy-Enhancing Technologies ensure compliance with EU privacy laws and support unbiased, non-discriminatory policing. On the second day, a dedicated Tool Workshop explored the platform’s architecture, data integration, interoperability, and usability, ensuring it meets real-world needs.

Beyond the intensive work sessions, the two days were a great chance to deepen collaboration, align technical goals, and share insights across partners – showing that collective effort can be both productive and fun!

A big thank you to our Romanian hosts for their warm welcome and to all partners for making PRESERVE move forward together!
